The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering program at the Visayas State University was offered in 2008 to give more options to prospective students in the region wishing to embark on a career in civil engineering. The BSCE aimed to provide an educational experience of highest quality to our undergraduate students through a program of study that accommodates the individual’s interest and career goals. The BSCE curriculum was designed to provide an integrated educational experience in mathematics, humanities, social sciences, engineering sciences, and civil engineering design as well as provide students with the knowledge and skills in construction. The BSCE is a five-year degree program with a total of 220 units.
In 2018, it was revised based in the policies, standards, and guidelines of the Commission on Higher Education as reflected in CMO No. 92 s. 2017. The curriculum was aligned to the principles of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE), the K-12 Education Program, and the New General Education Curriculum (NGEC). It specifies the core competencies expected of BSCE graduates upon graduation, after seven years of engineering practice, and as a globally competitive practicing engineer.
It is now a four-year degree program with major fields of specialization such as Construction Engineering and Management, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering.
